Ghetto Golf - A Night in Digbeth

09/21/2018

Although I'm not very good at it, I really like playing crazy golf. So when we went for a work outing to Ghetto Golf in Digbeth I had some fairly high hopes for the session. And it did not disappoint.

For those who don't know, Ghetto golf is an indoor crazy golf course for adults only, filled with bars, loud music, and a very entertaining course (but more on that later). The age restriction is largely due to the content of a couple of the holes, and the fact that you can have drinks delivered to you as you go around the course!
Because what is more fun than watching your friends get progressively worse as the number of drinks bought goes up?!

The venue overall is very different to most places I'd visit on a Friday evening, with loud music blasting out a range of new and old school Rap & Grime, a bar which has a good selection of cocktails, and some street kitchen style food, but it was a really immersive and fun atmosphere. The bar itself isn't very expensive for the city centre, and although I didn't get any food myself it looked and smelt great. Next time I go, I will have to try some and update this with my full review.

Now, to the golf.

The venue is build around a 18 hole crazy golf course, and that's good. They have a queuing system for you to get started, and the wait even on a Friday evening was only 45 minutes. Once you're called forward, you're given a club, your choice of color for a ball, a pencil, and a score card. After that, it's all up to you. There are some suggested rules for how you play the game, e.g. no more than 6 shots at a hole. If the ball is against the wall you can more it 6 inches onto the hole, but you go round at your own pace. We were a group of 6 people, and it took us roughly 50 minutes to make it round, but as the old saying goes, "Time flies when you're embarrassing yourself in front of your friends with your lack of putting skills".

The course itself is really entertaining. I won't spoil the course for those of you who want to take a trip in the near future, but there is a great mixture of themes and obstacles to keep you constantly wondering how on earth you can get a hole in one. The themes of these holes range from indoor country pubs, to inside a bus, 1980's retro gaming, to your grandma's living room, and I honestly don't know if I had a favorite.
The obstacles around the course for the most part are your fairly standard set of corners and items to move around, but there are a few holes which have sections where you have no control over what happens to your ball, and these can change the course of the entire game!

I'd love to talk more about this, but my description doesn't do this justice. So if you want a great night out, go on the website, book yourself a game of golf for just £10 per person, and enjoy your night!

Until next time.

Tim
